CAYO LARGO

This place used to be an outpost of Carribean pirates in the past, but today it is an ideal locality for wonderful diving vacation in the middle of the Carribean sea.

Satelitní mapa

Tiny island Cayo Largo belongs to Canarreos islands and is situated roughly 50 miles southwards far from Cuba. It used to serve as the outpost for the Caribbean´s pirates and since the 80´s it has been a symbol of deluxe and exotic holiday in the Caribbean. In November 2001 it was afflicted by Hurricane MICHAEL and it took very long time to come to life again - two hotels hasn´t been built yet and the other ones have been rebuilt as lately as the foregin investors hepled them in recent years. Today is Cayo Largo an ideal place for diving and fishing lovers and also for everybody who likes various sea activities and superior all inclusive services. It is hard to imagine any other better diving vacation!. Click on the map for more details.

Diving locations are situated in three areas: the first one is located in an immediate nearness of the island (south and south-west), the second one nearby Cayo Rosario (28 km far from Cayo Largo) and the third one- the most beautiful one- in the Golgo de Gazones area, between Cayo Sigua and Cayo Blanco isles ( in the north). CL diverka The first diving area which is located in an immediate nearness of the island (in the south and south-west) is popular for the barrier reefs, coral ridges and tunnels, which are at a depth of 18 meters and grade into the sundy slopes. Some coral reefs forms the real subaqueous mounains and cliffs, falling to the depths of 50 meters and more. The most frequent coral fish are the soals: of snappers ( 15-90 cm), surgeonfish, chromises a and a lot of others.¨........You can also get a view of turtles, tarpons, rays and eagle rays (in the picture). CL rejnok A good many of crawfish, green morays (watch out- some of them are agressive!) are hidden in the coral stashes. On sundy compartment you can find the abundant colonies of queen conches- it is the internationallly protected species, don´t take it- you can get into realy big troubles when checked at the airport. CL 2in1 The second area is situated nearby Cayo Rosario , 29 km westwards from Cayo Largo. The bottom relief there is very interesting because of the real coral labyrinths, where you can meet realy big jewfish, snappers, soals of jacks and very often also nurse sharks CL tarponi
CL gorgonie

The third place is situated beside the Golfo de Gazones area , 48 km north-westward far from Cayo Largo, between Cayo Sigua and Cayos Blancos islands. Almost all of the localities there are formed into the lovely cliffs falling from 15 meters ( top of the reef) into a depth of 200 meters and more- something like the Caribbean version of the Egyptian´s Brothers. The cliffs are mossy of big sea sponges, big gorgonias and black corals. Excepting the classical coral associations (see above), you can also see the big pelagic fish- tarpons, tunas, and with a bit of luck, you can run upon the Carebbean sharks, hammerheads and whale shakrs.

Because neither Cayo Sigua nor Cayos Blancos proturde under the level not more than a few centimetres, there is regrettably no hiding place while the choppy sea- therefore a good weather is nessesary for the perfect trip. A diving centre Avalon tries to persuate the Cuban goverment to forbid a commercial fishing and to proclaim a new sea park as well as at Jardines de la Reina. Despite the fact that it is a long distance race, it could become a new big diving superstar there.
CL Playa paraiso Cayo Largo offers a marvellous combination of diving and relaxing on the local famed beaches (Playa Sirena, Playa Paraiso, Playa Blanca a Los Cocos & Tortuga - click on the name of the beach for more details), kCayo Largo offers a marvellous combination of diving and relaxing on the local famed beaches where you can enjoy surfing, windsurfing, beach volleyball ot football.
